Pico competed at the LEAP agility trial in Massachusetts this weekend and I was extremely pleased and rather surprised that she Q’d in three out of four runs!
She had some green dog mistakes, like running past the a-frame when I pushed her too hard, but on the whole I found her very responsive and easy to handle.
I am going to have to really be strict with her on her startline and contacts, because she’s extremely pushy and tends to let excitement override training!
In her last run, jumpers with weaves, she knocked a bar and lost her head at the weave poles, first running right past them in her haste to get to the obstacle beyond, and then leaping out of them without completing them. When I put her back in she began barking at me like a nut, so I downed her until she regained her senses.
I really cant be too unhappy with this though, especially after I realized that she Q’d more in one weekend than Granite Q’d in one year!!
We’ll be doing mostly agility in April, I have entered her in trials almost every weekend, but dock diving is not far from my mind at all, as I’m really looking forward to Wichita and to our next Dock Dogs events. I dont think Pico can decide which she likes better, agility or dock diving. She drags me to class or to agility practice on her hind legs, screaming in excitement, but when she realizes she’s at a Dock Dogs event she practically swoons with delight. She makes everything we do a lot of fun.
