Pico is not one to sit idle. She’s been hoping for another Dock Dogs event, NOW!! I’ve been dutifully checking the announcements page on the Dock Dogs website for her and there it was! An event in January, in Illinois. We’re going!! That is, unless a blizzard rolls on thru. Even then, I’m sure Pico would expect me to put chains on the tires and go anyway.
Part of the reason we are so eager to drive the 12 hours is the chance to try extreme vertical. Pico had one training session two weeks ago and she picked it right up. She seems to take it very seriously and locks on the bumper silently. People who know Pico know she is very rarely silent.
There is a new format for extreme vertical. Dogs who have never competed, or who have never jumped over 6′ will compete in the “Cadet” division. Once a dog jumps over 6′ he/she moves into the “Top Gun” division where they remain.
At our training session, Pico jumped over my head easily, to snag the bumper time and time again. However, at 5′3″ that is not saying too much.
Pico is in top shape in the winter months. We are able to do a lot of conditioning and exercise and competing in two divisions on the same day will really test Pico’s stamina. As Pico has always gotten stronger, no matter how long the competition, I’m pretty sure the extra exertion will not affect her.
Anyway, she’s powered by the Bravo Raw Diet and Canine Performance Nutrition. Her diet and supplements have not let her down yet. I’m going to order more of her sports drink, Powerchow 2. It’s our secret weapon for those long days of jumping.
