Dock Dogs National Championships are history and I am still in a state of shock. Pico finished second in the elite division to our good friends Kevin Meese and his greyhound mix Country! I NEVER expected such a thing! Knowing Pico though, she probably had it all in hand from the start. (more…)

Pico and I headed down to Hamburg this weekend. Pico’s agenda was to jump as much as possible, and mine was to figure out what on earth I was doing wrong with my throws. (more…)

And turns around and goes right back home.
Pico and I got up at the crack of dawn to drive four hours to Syracuse to find that the event, listed as an outdoor event, was actually indoors. That’s ok, because Pico jumps well indoors and isnt bothered by lighting, footing or stuff that some dogs dont seem to like at indoor venues.
However, when I went inside I found that the ceiling was extremely low with even lower exposed pipes. No way could Pico jump here without killing herself, so we hung around a bit and watched and then drove the four hours back home.
Max, the judge, was extremely apologetic though it certainly wasnt his fault!! I’ll definitely find out what the conditions are like before going to indoor events in future, though. And, because I always like to look on the bright side, at least this happened at a more or less local event… Better to drive a total of eight hours for nothing than to drive 15-20 hours, which we’ve done quite a bit, to find impossible conditions.
Also on the bright side of things, Granite had a wonderful time. We took him shopping at the pet vendor isle, which he loved. He got a lot of attention, and better yet, a lot of cookies from the Dog Daze Bakery people after he showed off all his cute tricks. Pico, on the other hand, is an all business type who has no interest in shopping. She sat in the car and fumed, though she was mollified by the delicious cookie shaped like a ghost that Granite brought back for her. She has made a mental note to check out the Dog Daze Bakery again next time we are in the area, particularly since they also sell Bravo, the best food ever!
